Lunchbox Riot – The Weather

There are a lot of ways to earn respect in making music. Usually the best way though is taking a bunch of different sounds and melding them into a single fluid sound. Another is to do everything yourself. Lunchbox Riot, the project of NYC DJ 5 Alive (aka Mike Salerno), has these two down pat. He also thought a pretty damn awesome name. How can you not want to listen to Lunchbox Riot?

The Weather came out in December. Made on a tiny budget, Salerno did virtually everything on the album. Every song sounds different and occupies its own genre, from dance to hip-hop to indie pop/rock to funk. Salerno refers to this as “indie plus.” I refer to as “you’re going to find something you like somewhere on this album.”

Check it out, it’s pretty obviously a labor of love and deserves a listen.

Highlights:
Wax Wings
Summer
