Freelance Whales – Day Off

Those crazy twee kids from Brooklyn are back releasing another new single without a mention of whether a new album is to follow. 2010’s Weathervanes was an absolute blast of a record and they’re a great band to see in concert. When I saw them a couple months ago, they played a couple of new songs in addition to all of their released material.

“Day Off” doesn’t make a hard push on their sound, as celebratory and gleeful as ever, but there’s not much else to expect out of this band, who excel at what they do. Pitchfork might hate them, but I’ll be damned if there’s a better band making music today that’s as wonderfully feel-good as Freelance Whales’.
