Put this one on the “Just missed the list because I found it too late” list.
Bird by Snow was formed in the woods and fog of Northern California and it comes through in their sound. Made up of only one consistent member, Fletcher Tucker, it covers a wide range of influences and sounds.
“Across the Water” starts small, just a doubled-up guitar track. By the end, it’s east to forget where it started. It’s a gorgeous track and album closer to Bird by Snow’s 2010 LP, Commonwealth. By the end, there’s a snare tapping out the beat, a deep echoed piano, and Fletcher Tucker’s voice. In between there’s a thick wealth of sounds that you’ll just have to hear. The track doesn’t explode or blow up, it simply plods along in its elegance, adding bits of texture for beauty.
