Theophilus London – I Want You (Marvin Gaye Cover)

I honestly have no idea who Theophilus London is, but he just released a mixtape with a pretty awesome Marvin Gaye cover. It also has a remix of Ellie Goulding’s  “Starry Eyed” that itself isn’t too bad. I haven’t had the chance to listen to all of it, but the first five songs are solid enough that I’m inclined to put it up here. He’s also coming here to Ohio State soon.

The track that’s really on fire though is the Marvin Gaye cover, “I Want You” that gives the mixtape its title. It starts off with a verse from Theo that isn’t too bad, but once the song breaks out into its ’70s-disco inspired groove is when the beat really hits its spot. It also directly uses snippets of Gaye with (I think) Theo singing the chorus. Check it out here:
