Came across this guy briefly last summer, when I saw his surprisingly excellent cover of Regina Spektor’s “Us.” I accidentally found him again and while I’m not usually partial to youtube covers or douchebags with guitars, somehow I have to give this guy credit. He’s not only actually good, but he seems to put more soul behind what he’s playing than most do on Youtube, while still re-interpreting them to a different flavor. His cover of Etta James’ “At Last” is actually one of the best versions of the song that I’ve heard, despite being one of the most overplayed love songs in existence. What’s too bad is that it is a youtube cover, so it’s hard to get a version with good quality. The home-recording sound of the mp3 I ripped from adds a nice homely touch, but it still needs to be leveled out.
Alain De Courtenay – At Last (Etta James Cover)
He kinda sounds like Jack Johnson, only with soul.
